Windows OPerating SYSTEM TIPS

Realign the Start Button

When you start Windows 11 for the first time, you will notice that the Start button is in the middle… lets get normality back again!

Right-click the taskbar and open Taskbar Settings. Select the Taskbar Behaviours drop-down and change Taskbar Alignment to Left.

Now you are back to things the way they should be at the bottom left of the screen.

Restore Desktop Icon Order

On most new installations, as you enter the desktop, you will notice that a lot icons are missing, ones that you may be used to using daily.

If you click the four squared icon (left side or central location) and start to type in THEME, you will see the “Themes and related Settings” appear above. Click on this.

Scroll down until you see the “Desktop icon settings” and click on it.

Tick the items you want to appear on your desktop. Most people tend to use Computer, User’s FIles, Recycle Bin and Control Panel.

Click on OK and that’s you done!

Show all folder options quickly

Are you fed up when trying to get more information on a file or a folder by using the right mouse button, you then have to click “SHOW MORE OPTIONS” to do the task you wish?

The quickest way to deal with this annoyance is to hold the SHIFT KEY down as you click the Right Mouse button and ALL the menu options will appear, saving you have to click on the “SHOW MORE OPTIONS”

This takes a bit of time for you to adjust your “Mouse Click Memory” but once you do remmeber this, it really does make using Windows 11 a lot easier for certain tasks.

Check Windows System Files

If your computer has started to feel, sluggish or “not quite right” then it might be worthwhile giving the operating system files a quick checkup.

Press the windows button on your keyboard, or click the 4 squares on the taskbar and then type in: cmd and you should see the “Command Prompt” icon appear at the top.

Look to the right side of this and you should see the option to “Run as Administrator”, click on that and then click on “yes” when the box appears on the screen and you will be presented by a black box.

Click on this box and then type in: sfc /scannow and press the return/enter key on your keyboard.

This will now check, report or fix any system files that don’t quite seem right.

Once completed, you can close this window.
